UH Sequencing Core (UH-SEQ)

Opportunities: Join Our Lab Today!

High School Students

Every summer, the UH Sequencing Core provides two virtual opportunities for high-school students interested in gaining research experience. In both programs, participants will delve deep into the world of precision oncology and immunology, conduct a research project along with the mentorship of current Ph.D. students, and present their findings at the conclusion of the program.

Interested students are strongly recommended to apply through the U.S. Army’s Educational Outreach Program as participants will be provided with a stipend for their work. Students are also able to submit a request via email to participate in the virtual summer internship hosted by the UH Sequencing Core concurrently with the U.S. AEOP apprenticeship. Both programs are highly competitive and seek to provide students with a graduate-level research experience. Past participants have went on to win Regeneron ISEF, attend prestigious universities like Cornell, and present at the American Association for Cancer Research Annual Meeting.

The UH Sequencing Core is dedicated to giving back to the community and making spaces for members of marginalized communities to thrive in science. Through the Hispanic Serving Institutions (HSI) Scholars Program, UH-SEQ provides hispanic students with hands-on lab experience, bioinformatic training, and exposure to the sequencing industry. Participants will be mentored by current Ph.D. students and present a poster at the conclusion of the program.

UH-SEQ Core Graduate Student Rotation Form

The UH Sequencing Core welcomes graduate students with previous experience or a desire to become an expert in the field of industrial sequencing to apply for a rotation in the Core. We have succeeded because of the tireless efforts of past and present Ph.D. students, and a rotation in our lab seeks to provide you with the information necessary to determine whether the Core is the best fit for you!
